FAQ: What to pack?
Traveling to a completely new place to volunteer is exciting and a great learning experience. However, deciding on what to pack could lead to sleepless nights for some. So, here are some useful things that you should not forget to pack:
1. Solid shoes
As you will be placed in a rural community, you need to walk around a lot to reach your project site, so a comfortable pair of shoes is a must-have.
2. Raincoat / Umbrella
Mid-June to mid-September is monsoon season, so if you do not want to get wet in the rain, you better bring a raincoat or umbrella.
3. Room slippers or Flip-flops
On what to pack list, Outdoor shoes are not allowed within the house in our culture, so you better bring a pair of room slippers to wear inside the house.
4. Mosquito Repellent
If you do not wish to get bitten by mosquitoes, do not forget to pack a mosquito repellent.
5. Flashlight
Sometimes it might get dark walking from your project site to your host family, so having a flashlight would be helpful. Good to use for night walks.
6. Your own drinking bottle
On hot summer days, keeping your fluid intake in check is important. And, having a water bottle with you at all times is a necessity.
7. Sleeping bag
On the what-to-pack list, the mattresses provided by the host families in rural communities might not be to your liking, so a sleeping bag is comfortable and convenient.
8. Lunch box
Every day when you leave for work, your host family will pack your lunch so you need a lunch box.
9. A small first aid kit
Just in case…
Now that everything what to pack is packed and checked, we hope you have a wonderful volunteering experience with VIN.
