Jitpurphedi Women Agriculture Co-operative recently conducted the 10th General Assembly on 11th January 2020 that saw the participation of 490 women shareholders. The Co-operative was established under VIN’s initiation in 2010 as part of the Women’s Empowerment Program. It was created for a number of reasons; the primary one being providing substantial and low-interest loans to the women to encourage economic independence.
The Co-operative has established itself as a center of women’s trust in the community. The Assembly was attended by shareholders, stakeholders, Deputy Mayor of Tarakeshwor Municipality, President and Members of ward no 3, Co-operative representative, the VIN team including the Vice-President, Volunteers Manager, Program Manager, and Program Officer, security representative, social workers, and international volunteers. The main objective was to present the annual Co-operative transaction and to present the Annual Plan 2020. The event included appreciation letter distribution, cultural programs, and speeches by the representatives of various sectors. Stalls were also arranged to promote the products of women like beads jewelry, liquid soap, bags, vegetables, etc.
The Co-operative President presented the annual financial transaction and upcoming year plan, while the Treasurer presented details of annual income and expenditure and financial plan. All the stakeholders lauded the achievements of the Co-operative as it has promoted leadership among women and created employment opportunities. Most of the speakers focused on the need to increase share amount and expand the working area and suggested options for community development like one village one product, and plastic-free wards.
The most remarkable achievement of the Co-operative has been the construction of its own building, which was recently inaugurated. The stakeholders hoped the Co-operative would continue to empower women.
