16th April, 2014: Groups of children from Okhaldhunga were involved in personal hygiene campaign and trained on correct hand washing and teeth brushing techniques. VIN health volunteers under public health and medical care project did campaign with children from early children development and primary school. The campaign was to aware children about hand washing and teeth brushing, to demonstrate appropriate hand washing & teeth brushing techniques to children and to practically involve children in One Day hand washing & teeth brushing campaign.
On the first part, it was focused on benefits of Hand washing & Teeth Brushing, harmful effects of not washing hands and not brushing teeth, time to wash hands and brush teeth and how it can be continued in school and at home. On the second part, all were involved practically in one day Hand Washing & Teeth Brushing campaign. Children were provided tooth brushes, tooth pastes and soaps. The campaign was conducted in 9 ECD centres and schools of Taluwa VDC, Okhaldhunga. It was conducted among 300 children.
About 300 children were benefited from the Hand washing & Teeth brushing campaign conducted by VIN. It has contributed to transform the health behaviour of school children. The following views expressed by ECD teacher in Taluwa also support this finding. “The Hand washing & Teeth Brushing campaign conducted by VIN had helped children to follow the correct hygiene practices”.
It is concluded that campaigns conducted in schools of Taluwa largely appeared to be effective in promoting school children’s health.
