Started on 6th of April, two friends from America worked on Painting and Decoration Workcamp at Jitpurphedi VDC. The program was scheduled for two weeks including induction and work at community. With a brief introduction on Nepal, VIN as an organization, cultural difference in Nepal and an orientation on Painting and Decoration program, they started their work from 7th of April.
There are altogether eight schools & one community-based Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre in the Jitpurphedi community. Most of the schools do not have compound walls, child friendly classrooms or enough educational materials. VIN aims to empower the children of Jitpur VDC (the project area) through educational programs and training. VIN is supporting the schools with the help of volunteers involved in construction and maintenance, teaching English and sharing their skills. Volunteers’ support is always needed to help VIN meet its goals.
The two volunteers helped to paint the fences and gates of Shree Kalikasharan School. They completed the painting work at this school and continued to paint the classes at Nagarjuna School. With a help a one local volunteer, they could complete half of the work at Nagarjuna School in short period of time. Along with the experience of working at community school, they also experienced the local host family stay. They said, “The host family was incredible.”
They completed their program on 18th of April, 2014. VIN wants to thank the workcamp volunteers for their dedication and hard work. It has been a great support for VIN.
