Volunteers Initiative Nepal organized 10-days bag-making training under Dalit Entrepreneurship Development Project. The training was concluded on 28th December. Women from marginalized communities were provided soft training to make different kind of bags for daily use, ranging from shopping bags, carry-on bags, party bags and many more. They also made simple khadas that is widely used in almost every programs and events in Nepal. All their products were displayed during the closing event.
We had a total of 14 participants for the training. Mrs. Durga Rana Magar, the trainer thoroughly trained them putting major focus on tiniest details and clean finishing. The participants can now take the initiative to make bags and sell around their own communities. They may form groups and work together producing large number of bags. These products can then be sold in larger cities like Kathmandu, Pokhara, Biratnagar etc. The possibilities are infinite.
This training will not only polish them with an added skill but also provide an opportunity to enhance their financial standing. It gives them a sense of self-worth and independence. We observed that the participants were very keen on learning new designs and techniques. Even if a single participant takes this opportunity and starts a small bag business, we would consider this bag-making training a success. Nevertheless, we do hope that each of our participant is able to fully benefit from the training. VIN wishes them the very best!
