Life skill class was held on the 13th of December at Dadagaun of Jitpurphedi. The objectives of the session were to sensitize women on domestic violence, embracing different topics, from the different forms and cycles of domestic violence to government law to prevent it and women’s rights. The session was carried out at the local school at 11 pm, where a total of 28 women participants attended. The session began with introductory activities where the facilitator paired-up women and made them introduce their partner in front of everyone. She also introduced the topic through video with objectives. The facilitator, Om Kumari Shrestha started asking a question like what is domestic violence in order to analyze their understanding of domestic violence. Then she emphasized definition, variation and laws of government on women right by showcasing written chart papers. To have a better understanding of effect and prevention, Richa moreover talked about the deteriorating effect and impact on the victim of domestic violence as well as explaining about consequential steps to prevent domestic violence. Furthermore, she also highlighted gender-based discrimination, talking about how the majority of the female are facing this issue in everyday life either from society or family. In the middle of the session, volunteers presented a chart paper indicating 4 domestic violence types, so that they can differentiate and identify the variation of violence. Volunteers went through every section by explaining and asking whether they have experienced or encountered in their life. At last, volunteers presented the cycle phase of domestic violence in order to raise awareness on how this cycle keeps repeating if a victim doesn’t identify the intention of the perpetrator and keeps allowing the perpetrator’s will instead of taking or seeking help.
The session was concluded with the following interactive discussion with the participants and was informed about the next session with layers regarding deep insight of women’s rights referred to the context of the Nepal Government. Women were actively participated in each of the transitional activities of the session and openly shared their experience, discussed deeply the issues of domestic violence and gender-based discrimination.
