We organized blood pressure and blood sugar assessment campaign in Bhandarigaun, Kavresthali. Out of 60 people, we checked 6 people have high blood pressure and 3 have high blood sugar. Among 6 people having high blood pressure, 2 have severe hypertension and 4 have mild hypertension. Among 3 high blood sugar, they are suffered from mild to moderate hyperglycemia. We found 13 people are taking medicines for hypertension. Only one person is taking medicine for diabetes. We use manual aneroid sphygmomanometer and digital spot blood sugar test kit machine to asses blood pressure and blood sugar level. We repeat the test twice with those who are found abnormal on a single test.
Iswori Bhandari, 65 years old male has high blood pressure with 170 mmHg systolic and 110 mmHg diastolic. He was suffered from a heart attack 5 years back. Now he is taking medicine for hypertension. We inform him that his blood pressure is not under control. He is suggested to visit a consultant that he was consulting in the past.
Hypertension and diabetes are an emerging disease in Nepal. The study has shown that there is an alarming situation of hypertension among Nepalese males and middle-aged, and a situation of concern with prehypertension in rural areas affecting almost 40 % of the population. We are educating people about hypertension and diabetes through community visits and spot test. Public health and medical care project is designed to educate people about health and ensure their access to quality health services. This time we are concentrated in Kavresthali We have a plan to continue the project in other wards of Tarkeswor municipality.
