Emma Luimes, from Hobart, Tasmania, started her internship on the 15th of February. Emma is doing her journalism internship with VIN’s partner New Spotlight Magazine. “I am only interning for one month, in hindsight, I would have committed more time to working with VIN and Spotlight”.
As a recent Journalism and Media Communications graduate, Emma had gained experience in all aspects of news production. “Even though my time with VIN has been short, I feel like I have gained a lot of experience, I’ve also learned a lot about Nepali culture”. “In my short time, I have already had three articles published online, and one in New Spotlight’s print Edition.
Like most of our volunteers and interns, Emma is staying with a host family. “I was hesitant about staying with a host family initially, the idea of being immersed in a totally new environment for an extended time was a bit daunting”. “Looking back, staying with my host family really has been a highlight of my experience, they are great, and I am glad that the homestay is part of the VIN experience”.
“VIN’s journalism internship program is a great way to gain experience and contribute to VIN’s many projects around Nepal”, she says.
