VIN organized 5 days long kitchen garden training under the Dalit Entrepreneurship Development Project in Okhaldhunga. The training commenced on 11th March, 2021 and concluded on 15th March, 2021. Marginalized families from the Dalit community were provided soft training to improve their nutrition habits by growing organic vegetable in their kitchen garden.
The importance of a kitchen garden has yet not been realized by many people in rural Nepal. A kitchen garden ensures an inexpensive, regular and handy supply of fresh vegetables which are basic to nutrition. The green vegetables contain vitamins and minerals which protect us against diseases. Additionally, kitchen garden also helps us to solve our food problem.
We had a total 20 participants from Siddhicharan Municipality Ward no. 1 (Taluwa) and Ward no. 2 (Thulachhap) for the kitchen garden training. Mr. Ramchandra Neupane, trained them focusing on soil quality improvement, seed germination, manure making, seasonal and off seasonal nursery bed preparation, methods to prepare natural pesticides at home, drip irrigation system and more. VIN distributed different kinds of vegetable seeds to the participants.
The training will serve as a motivation for the people to convert their barren land into an organic garden. The fresh and organic vegetables will play a vital role to improve the imbalanced nutrition and food habits of people. We hope the same idea will be replicated and implemented throughout the community.
