Nepal is one of the least developed countries in the world and the poorest country of South Asia. Stuck in the middle of superpowers India and China, it has no natural resources. Over 80% of all Nepali people earn less than 1,5€ per day. For children it is extremely difficult to get involved in good education. They are stuck in their vicious circle of poverty and pass it on onto the next generation. Through Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN) you can give a child the opportunity to develop itself to the fullest and assure them a better future.
WHO ARE YOU HELPING?
• Children from a very poor community or lower-caste children
Social stratification into casts still is very common in Nepali society. A lot of these families do not have the money to send their children to school. Because of discrimination, this especially appears among girls
• Child victims of the civil war (1996-2006)
The 10-year insurrection made it for many children impossible to finish their schooling. VIN helps these young ones in obtaining their degree.
• Children from the disadvantaged and marginalized community Okhaldhunga
This remote area is located nearly 500 kilometers in the northeast of Kathmandu. VIN has decided to start up some new projects because of the lack of proper education. Teachers are poorly trained and are unable to provide their students with sufficient equipment. Most families are not able to fund their children’s education and as a consequence a lot of students see themselves forced to give up their schooling. Another reason for the massive drop-out is the huge time they spend helping at their parent’s farms. Choosing between food or education.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
230 EUR per year fully provides a child with everything it needs for good schooling. The amount includes admission and examination fees, two uniforms, stationary and books. VIN will continually follow the progress of the child and will inform interested sponsors.
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
You will receive a picture of the child plus personal letters and cards. In addition you will receive a report twice a year that announces the child’s progress. VIN will also send you their annual report and newsletter.
