VIN has been implementing Post Disaster Relief -WASH (Water Sanitation, Health and Hygiene education) project in Jitpurphedi community, Kathmandu. The main objective of the WASH projects is to improve health and hygiene situation by assuring easy access to toilets for the community people, raising health and hygiene awareness campaigns and improving quality of drinking water. The important ongoing work from the WASH volunteers is raising health and hygiene awareness in the community and constructing toilets.
VIN has been supporting toilet construction project by providing construction materials to all families. The materials includes 3 bags cement, 20kg iron rod, 2 pieces roof materials, pan pipe set and dhalan wire. VIN also mobilizes local and international volunteers for each family. The family also contributes with labor, stone, brick, wood, door lock etc. Moreover VIN conducted the orientation program in different places of Jitpurphedi community by mobilizing international and national volunteers .
The volunteers offered their hard labor by digging holes, mixing cement, carrying of construction materials, building wall etc. Their working time is from 10.00 Am to 4.00 pm Monday to Friday. This week four international volunteers Virginia from Portugal and Sara from Spain and Estelle from Belgium and Vanessa from Belgium, they supported three families .Now the volunteers are directly involved in digging safety tank hole. They completed two toilet safety tanks. VIN followed up the work in timely manner. The awareness campaigns in the community is organized by 3 international health volunteers from Netherlands namely Julia, Chantalle and Amber along with the local volunteers Krishna maya, Prajina and Ananta.
VIN’s WASH program is appreciated by most of the people as families are directly benefited by this project. We are very grateful to all national and international volunteers for their immense support and determination to contribute for the empowerment of marginalized communities.
