Volunteers Initiative Nepal organized one day interaction program “Kisan Chautari” for the farmers of Okhaldhunga. It was organized as per the demand of farmers to empower them and so they were trained with the farming skills and provided with improved seeds for different crops and plants. The farmers had especially demanded for the seeds of the Dalle Ghas (a type of grass). The training was provided by the National Farmers Group Federation and it was attended by the farmers of Taluwa VDC. Sarita Luitel represented the National Farmers Group Federation in the training. The program was supported by VIN’s staff Uttar Kumar Shrestha.
In the training program from Taluwa, 3-4 members of National Farmers Group Federation are invited and VIN will provide them 5 days training related with farming and environment friendly crops and plants.
Initially, VIN had provided the training for 75 people from the village and had planned to provide them additional advanced skill training related to environment friendly crops and plants. In each of such trainings organized, VIN provided supporting materials like stationary, food allowance and other necessary materials required while attending the training to the trainees. As the training ends, VIN further helps the farmers by giving 60% of support while buying different seasonal and off season and seeds and grains while the remaining 40% is invested by the farmers themselves.
Similarly, as per the necessity of the farmers in Okhaldhunga, VIN will also support in the construction of the plastic pond for irrigation. In this project VIN will again support the farmers by providing 60% of the materials required for the construction.
