On 10th of November 2015 Volunteers Initiative Nepal organized the transitional home certificate distribution program in the Jitpur higher secondary school. The main aim of this program was to officially hand over the transitional shelters and to distribute the appreciation certificate to the volunteers who were involved in the construction of the transitional shelter. A devastated earthquake hit the Nepal on 25th April,2015 which caused the massive destruction of over 600 thousands houses resulting deaths of over 8800 people and damages on 90% of our cultural heritage sites. The earthquakes destroyed at least 30, 00 classrooms, 80% of schools damaged. Nearly millions of children have been without a school facility to attend since the quake.
In the immediate aftermath in its 1st relief phase , VIN provided top needs of survivors to the focused area (Jitpurphedi, Okharpawa, Okhaldhunga). It included essentials like water, food, hygiene supplies, livelihood support, tent, blanket and protection for children. And in the second phase VIN has constructed 550 transitional shelter in its working community sites Jitpurphedi, Okharpauwa and in Okhaldhunga district. The second phase has been also completed and proceeded to the third phase WASH project to make the whole community ODF by 2016.
On that day, there were over 300 people were gathered including local volunteers who have been volunteering on construction of 252 houses in the Jitpurphedi. The participated volunteers seemed very happy including the community people who officially received the transitional shelter from the VIN on the same day. This program motivated the youth of the Jitpurphedi community to involve more on social development work.
