Okharpauwa village development committee (VDC) in Nuwakot district, 17 km from Balaju Kathmandu is selected as VIN’s new project site. It has a good access by bus but it’s not easy to reach the communities. Preliminary survey report has shown that it has 7901 population with 1510 households. Wards 1, 4, 5 and 9 are found marginalized and underdeveloped communities. There are 3 higher secondary schools, a secondary school and 4 primary schools in VDC. A health and a Primary health care center (PHC) are serving as health center. There are 7 cooperatives and a general cooperative in the VDC. Health and sanitation status is found to be poor. It is found that about 50% of households do not have toilets.
VIN is now working in two districts Kathmandu and Okhaldhunga. From this year it has decided to extend the integrated community development programs to another district of Nepal. A study team from VIN has visited three sites in Kathmandu and Nuwakot. Among the three sites it has recommended Okharpauwa from Nuwakot as a suitable site. It is found that Okharpauwa is needy in comparison to other. It has a big scope of Women empowerment, Child development, Public health and Youth empowerment program. People are found excited and enthusiastic in an interactive Program with VIN. They are positive towards international volunteers and the service providing by them. They are interested to work with VIN and get involved into the development activities.
It is a good opportunity to volunteers and interns to get involved into the VIN new project site. Are you interested to join hands with us?
