A trash collection campaign for environment conservation was organized at Kavresthali to clean the most polluted part of the area, river and under the bridge of Mahadev Khola. A campaign was organized in the initiation of VIN volunteer Jeffrey Oser from the US. Jeff worked with VIN for 4 weeks in water resource management and waste management. He did a survey in Kavresthali about water pollution in the route of River that flows through the village. Basically, the study was a focus on river pollution and the best way to prevent it for Environment conservation. During the survey, he found that under the bridge at Mahadevkhola is extremely polluted. Households from the surroundings are throwing the trashes and wastes into the river. He came up with an idea to clean the area with locals’ involvement and keeping the trash trapper just below the flow of water. Trash trapper doesn’t let the trashes to flow down and it can be collected trashes from there time to time. The campaign was coordinated with the municipality ward office, private trash collector, political leaders, and locals.
The trashes from the riverside is collected by VIN volunteers, youth and locals from the area. There were about 15 people presented at the campaign. They collected 30 big bags of about 50 kg each from the area. The collected trashes were piled up at the safe place and asked the municipality to arrange a vehicle to pick it up from there.
VIN has been working for environment conservation for last few years and waste management is always in the main thing to do for this. Decomposing them randomly is causing the pollution-water and air pollution. Waste management is a big challenge in Kavresthali which is recently turned to the municipality and lacks a permanent waste management plan and policy. People seem not aware of the environmental and health impact of the waste. VIN is working for the awareness campaign. Next step is to implement an action to manage the waste in a long run. Jeff has developed a proposal to manage trash from Kavresthali. This proposal is submitted to the Municipality central office, ward office and private waste collector from VIN.
Here is a part of the proposal to manage the waste of Kavresthali.
