VIN is focusing on overall development of Jitpurphedi Community and has been conducting various developmental activities. With the need of the community to maintain the hygiene to help them maintain their health status, VIN implemented WASH project in Jitpurphedi community, Kathmandu.
The major objectives of the WASH projects is to improve health and hygiene facility by assuring all families have toilet and quality drinking water. Before implementing the project, VIN informed municipality ward office about where the toilet construction is to take place.
Under WASH project VIN has been constructing toilet by supporting non local materials and volunteers for each family who didn’t have toilet. VIN supported non local material like; 2 bags cement, 20kg iron rod, 3 pieces roof materials, pan pipe set and iron wire and also mobilized local and international volunteers for the construction. And the family managed skilled labor, stones, bricks, wood, door frame, door lock etc. all on its own. VIN conducted meeting for purposing collection of material, mobilized volunteers. VIN further asked the locals to select proper land for toilet house and safety tank and provided knowledge about other kinds of skills required. VIN provided more than 18 local and international volunteers for construction work in Jitpurphedi community. Before construction work, VIN provided orientation on the important information about toilet construction and hygiene tips to international and local volunteers. The major role of the volunteers during construction period was to support the work as unskilled manual labors like: digging holes, mixing cement, carrying of construction materials, building wall etc. They had to get involved in work from 10.00 Am to 4.00 pm. During the construction period family and volunteers both worked together. VIN made follow-ups and supervision of volunteers and skilled labor’s work and gave constructive feedback to them.
