A group of VIN volunteers and local facilitators has conducted WASH campaigns in Jitpurphedi VDC (Tarkeswore municipality ward 7 and 8) on November. They have conducted 11 campaigns in different villages of Jitpurphedi. There were altogether 118 participants, who were the representatives of 118 households. The content of the campaigns were importance of hygiene and sanitation, hand washing techniques and timing, toilet using and importance, toilet construction project of VIN, role and responsibilities of families, water purification techniques and moreover it was discussed on using sanitary products in future. The campaigns were organized in communityand it was adopted a participatory approach with active involvement of community people. The facilitators and volunteers used posters and pamphlets as an IEC materials. Volunteers supported in practical demonstration of hand washing with soap and water, toilet cleaning with brush and toilet cleaner. It was provided hygiene kit to all participants.
Awareness campaign was the part of WASH campaign which was targeted to those families who do not have access to toilets. It was to motivate the families to build toilets in their houses and practice hygiene and sanitation. VIN has already identified 135 families from Jitpurphedi. It has a target to educate the families and support them to build toilet in their house by the end of this month. VIN is working to declare Jitpurphedi as an open defecation free campaign in coordination with municipality ward office and municipality central office.
At the end of all campaigns feedback was collected from participants. It is found that the campaigns are useful for the dissemination of information regarding water sanitation and hygiene. VIN has considered it as a useful event for education and motivation of people.
Next VIN has a plan to start a campaign in Nuwakot and Okhaldhunga. We are going to support 200 families in Nuwakot and 500 families in Okhaldhunga.
