Kshitij Sharma is a dedicated and enthusiastic professional with a strong background in project management, disaster risk reduction and environmental health. Currently serving as the Program Manager at Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN), Kshitij brings a wealth of experience in coordinating community-based projects, supervising ESC volunteers and implementing sustainable development initiatives. His expertise lies in disaster risk management, environmental conservation and community empowerment, aligning perfectly with ViN’s mission to create lasting change through holistic community development.
As the Program Manager, Kshitij oversees the implementation and integration of ViN’s four pillars of development: Education, Health & Environment, Economy and Basic Infrastructure, through six empowerment programs. His key responsibilities include leading the planning, implementation and evaluation of projects across all working sites; managing a diverse team of staff and volunteers to ensure effective collaboration and professional development; building and maintaining partnerships with local communities, government bodies and other stakeholders; monitoring and evaluating project progress to ensure alignment with ViN’s mission and strategic goals and ensuring the visibility and smooth operation of ViN’s programs, including youth clubs, women’s cooperatives, and early childhood development centers.
Kshitij has over five years of experience in project management, disaster risk reduction and environmental health. His previous roles include serving as a Program Coordinator at the National Federation of Youth NGO Nepal, where he led community-based disaster response and management projects in Kathmandu and Saptari; He worked as a DRRM Research Assistant at Tribhuvan University, where he engaged in research activities, data collection, and analysis; and also supported academic program coordination working as an Assistant Program Coordinator at NIMS Institute of Education. Kshitij’s expertise in disaster risk management, environmental health and community engagement has been instrumental in driving impactful projects that address the needs of vulnerable communities.
Kshitij holds a master’s degree in environmental health in disaster from Tribhuvan University, Institute of Science and Technology, and a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Kathmandu University.
Kshitij possesses a diverse skill set, including technical proficiency in MS Office, ArcGIS, SPSS and Nepali typing. He had good communication skills, complemented by strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities. He has good organizational skills, with a proven track record in planning, coordination and time management. Additionally, Kshitij excels in leadership, demonstrating expertise in team management, mentoring, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
Kshitij is deeply passionate about environmental sustainability, disaster risk reduction and community empowerment. He is committed to making a meaningful impact through his work, ensuring that vulnerable communities have access to resources and opportunities for growth.
Kshitij plays a pivotal role in successfully implementing and coordinating six integrated empowerment programs across Kathmandu and Okhaldhunga; establishing and ensuring the smooth operation of women’s cooperatives, youth clubs and early childhood development centers; supervising ESC volunteers; and enhancing ViN’s visibility through effective communication, reporting, and community engagement.
